The final round of the Formula Winter Series at Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya proved to be positive event overall. With weather conditions quite mixed, Bart showed good pace in testing on Thursday and Friday, so confidence was high going into qualifying on Saturday morning.
On a wet track, Bart qualified P3 and P6 in qualifying session one and P4 in Q2. He only missed out on a double pole position in Q1 due to being blocked by another slower car but overall Bart and the team were very pleased.
In race one, on a now dry track on Saturday afternoon, Bart was lying a comfortable third and making gains on the first and second placed cars. Unfortunately that all came to an end around the halfway mark when a mechanical failure ended his race. Whilst disappointing, there was confidence to take from his race pace.
Race two was on a wet track and, in the tricky conditions, Bart quickly moved from his P6 starting position to third, which he held to the chequered flag to gain his first podium for Jenzer Motorsport.
The weather improved and the final race was run in dry conditions. A really strong performance saw Bart cross the line as race winner, but five minutes later he was awarded a five second penalty for a track limits incursion on the final lap, dropping him to third. Whilst another podium was a great result, there was a degree of unfairness about the penalty, with the team not being made aware by the stewards of earlier track limit penalties and, therefore, unable to warn Bart to take care on his final lap.
To leave the circuit with two podiums and still be slightly disappointed highlighted the progress made over the course of the Winter Series.
